Automated Speed Enforcement Camera Program

The Maryland State General Assembly passed Maryland Transportation Law 21-809 in the Spring, 2099 allowing the use of "photographic speed-monitoring systems". As a result of this legislation, the Maryland Transportation Article permits The Town of Capitol Heights to use photographic speed-monitoring systems in school zones. A photographic speed-monitoring system is a speed-measuring system that works in conjunction with a photographic, video or electronic camera to automatically measure the speed and produce photographs, video or digital images of vehicles violating a speed limit of speed restriction.

The goal of the department is to insure to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists by providing a traffic safety enforcement program specifically focused on school zones, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 6am to 8pm.

Camera locations:
600 Suffolk ave.
1400 Addison Road South
6000-6100 Central Ave.
